Two Hurricanes Among The Nation’s Top Academic Talent
Congratulations to our seniors, Gustavo Alonso ’27 and Lucas del Valle ’27, named Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program!
More than 1.2 million juniors across approximately 20,000 high schools entered by taking the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT® examination. Gustavo and Lucas are now among just over 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.
Conducted by the nonprofit National Merit Scholarship Corporation, the program honors students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Our Hurricanes now have the opportunity to continue competing for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships, worth nearly $24 million, to be offered in the spring.
We are incredibly proud of Gustavo and Lucas and what our students bring to every academic challenge.

Saint John’s School
Saint John’s School is a non-profit, college preparatory, nonsectarian, coeducational day school founded in 1915. The school, located in a residential area of Condado, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has an enrollment of over 800 students from Toddler to grade twelve. Instruction is mostly in English with the exception of language courses.
