National Science Bowl Regional Championships

Hurricanes’ fast thinking, sharp teamwork, and serious science knowledge were on display at the Regional Championships of the U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl, hosted at SESO in Mayagüez.


This academic competition challenges teams in a rapid-fire format covering biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, energy, and mathematics. Congratulations to our teams, who stepped up to the buzzer:
 
Middle School Team 1: Sebastian Borschow ’30, Eva Nguyen ’30, Victoria Osorio ’30, Apolo Riefkohl ’31, and Leith Yassin ’31 claimed the regional title after defeating Colegio Notre Dame in the final round and will advance to the National Science Bowl Finals in Washington, D.C. (April-May).
 
Middle School Team 2: Luis Marrero ’31, Miranda Mu?oz-Najar ’31, Nazeli Rivas ’32, and Jade Santiago ’32.
 
High School Team 1: Aren Finelt ’26, Eduardo Perey? ’26, Ben Ravitch ’28, He Shan ’28, and Maddox Nguyen ’28.
 
High School Team 2: Tyler Kuo ’26, Quan Shan ’26, Manesh Palai ’27, Ignacio Mu?oz-Najar ’29, and Violette Shue ’29 advanced to the quarterfinals and finished among the Top 16 out of 24 schools.
 
We are proud of our students and wish our Middle School champions the best as they prepare to represent Puerto Rico on the national stage.

Saint John’s School is a non-profit, college preparatory, nonsectarian, coeducational day school founded in 1915. The school, located in a residential area of Condado, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has an enrollment of over 800 students from Toddler to grade twelve. Instruction is mostly in English with the exception of language courses.
