Congratulations to our 2024 National Merit Scholar!

We're bursting with hurricane pride that Jerry J. Chen ('24) has been named a 2024 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winner by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®)! Out of over 15,000 exceptional Finalists, Jerry has been selected as one of the National Merit 2,500 Scholars.

National Merit Scholarship winners are chosen from Finalists in each state based on their outstanding accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in college. The number of winners per state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation's graduating seniors. This year's Scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors based on academic records, difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned, PSAT/NMSQT® scores, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay by the Finalist, and a recommendation by a high school official. Scholars like Jerry may use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university, paving the way for their futures. By the end of the 2024 program, more than 6,870 Finalists will have earned the prestigious "Merit Scholar" title and received a collective total of nearly $26 million in college scholarships.

Founded in 1955, NMSC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to conducting the National Merit Scholarship Program. The scholarships are made possible by approximately 320 independent corporate and college sponsors who share NMSC's vision of recognizing scholastically talented youth and promoting academic excellence.

Congratulations, Jerry!
