Admissions Criteria

Applicants for admission to Saint John's School should be academically oriented and be able to meet demanding standards and curricular, instructional, and behavioral high expectations.
 
Where applicable, criteria for admission include evidence of previous academic success, positive school behavior/citizenship, and proof of ability to succeed in the academic and social environment at Saint John's School.
 
All candidates are given careful consideration in the admissions process, and any adverse decisions are made regretfully but with the best interest of the child and the school in mind. The final decision on an applicant's admission is based on the collective experience and judgment of the school administrators, psychologist, and counselor on the Admissions Committee.
 
All applicants are informed in writing or by phone call of the action taken on admissions. Each applicant's admission folder and content is the property of Saint John's School and may not be copied or released to parents and/or guardians.

  • Early Childhood Program (Toddler Program through 2nd grade)

    • Completed application: Apply here
    • Birth Certificate
    • PVAC-3 form (Puerto Rico vaccination form)/Immunization record
    • Family/Student introduction letter
    • $100.00 Application fee
      • For students applying to PPK, PK, and Kinder:
        • Documents from current preschool/daycare:
          • Letter of recommendation
          • Evaluation or progress report from current teacher
        • Classroom observation & preschool readiness screening
        • Child must be potty trained
      • For students applying to 1st and 2nd grade:
        • Transcript from current and/or previous school (two complete years minimum)
        • Evaluation or progress report from current teacher
        • Letters of recommendation from current teacher (s) (templates provided by Saint John's School)
        • Previous standardized test scores: Piense, Learn Aid, or comparable (if applicable)
        • Psychometric Evaluation:
          • Appropriate WISC-IV. Sub-scores, observations, and recommendations should be included in the report as well as any additional tests the psychologist may deem advisable. Beery-Visual motor test with age equivalent must be included in the psychometric report.
        • Classroom Observation & Academic Assessment
    The required age for admission to the Toddler Program is 18 to 36 months, Pre Pre-Kinder is 3 years by July 31; for Pre-Kinder, 4 years by July 31; for Kindergarten, 5 years by July 31; for First grade, 6 years by July 31.
     
  • Elementary Division (3rd through 6th grade)

    • Psychometric evaluation:

    • Entrance exam (online testing)
      • ISEE Entrance Exam

        • Select the ERB-Administered At-Home Testing option.

    • Classroom visit
    • Interview with the Elementary School Principal
    • $100.00 application fee
  • Secondary Division (7th through 12th grade)

    • Family/Student introduction letter
    • Transcript from current or previous school (two complete years minimum)
    • Letters of recommendation from current teachers (template provided by Saint John's School)
    • Psychoeducational Evaluation (if applicable):
      • Appropriate WISC-V.  Sub-scores, observations, and recommendations should be included in the report, plus any additional test the psychologist may deem advisable.
    • Previous standardized test scores: Piense, Learn Aid, PSAT, SAT, SSAT, or comparable (if applicable)
    • Entrance exam (online testing) for grades 7 to 10 only
      • ISEE Entrance Exam

    • Interview with the Saint John’s School Admissions Committee
    • $100.00 application fee

    For students applying to 12th grade:

    Saint John’s School considers only extraordinary cases for senior year entry. Applicants must provide evidence of such (determined by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis) and comply with at least one of the following:
    • Excellent academic standing; cumulative GPA of 3.5 (or equivalent) or better
    • Returning former student in excellent standing
    • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the SJS community
    • If admitted, the student must commit to taking at least five academic courses for the year.

    To be considered for admission, each applicant must submit all the requirements described above. Incomplete files will not be reviewed.

Saint John’s School

Saint John’s School is a non-profit, college preparatory, nonsectarian, coeducational day school founded in 1915. The school, located in a residential area of Condado, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has an enrollment of over 800 students from pre pre-kinder to grade twelve. Instruction is mostly in English with the exception of language courses.
