A group of our lady Hurricanes stepped into one of the most competitive math arenas in the world and held their own.
Uma Navarrete ’26, Lara Yassin ’26, Ana Alameda ’27, Elsa Besser ’29, Gabriela Chanez ’29, and Violette Shue ’29 represented our school at the Harvard MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT), an international competition that draws close to 1,000 top problem solvers, including students who rank among the strongest in national and global olympiads.
Organized entirely by students from Harvard, MIT, and nearby schools, HMMT challenges advanced thinkers with complex, nonstandard problems that stretch mathematical creativity and reasoning. The tournament’s individual rounds require sharp focus, depth of knowledge, and the ability to approach mathematics in innovative ways.
Opportunities like HMMT fuel curiosity, elevate critical thinking, and show students what their future in mathematics can look like. We’re proud of our students for embracing the challenge and thinking boldly.
