7th Graders Explore the Estuario!

Our 7th graders celebrated Semana Nacional de los Estuarios with an educational trip to Parque Profesor Jaime Benítez in Laguna del Condado.

They explored the Estuario de la Bahía de San Juan firsthand, learning about native and invasive plant species, how microplastics affect marine life, and how pollution threatens our waters. Students also learned about sewage systems, proper waste disposal, and what “red flag” warnings reveal about the lagoon’s health.

This experience deepened their understanding of the vital role estuaries play and the importance of protecting these ecosystems, showing how SJS nurtures the conscientious leaders our community needs.
