Be a Bee Participants Present at SOMOS Puerto Rico Conference

The Be a Bee program was invited by Mr. Pablo Segarra (SOMOS PR) to attend the conference which took place on Friday, November 9, 2018.

The following SJS students were part of the efforts:
Organizer: Gabriela Acevedo
Event Leader: Paola Pimentel
Products & Finances: Claudia Mendez
Photographer: Ivana Rivera
Speakers: Camelia Marrero, Alfredo Cuprill

As representatives of Saint John’s School and the Be a Bee Project, students explained how the program was created, the evolution of the project and the team. In addition, they spoke about the observation beehive at school and the results of the observations done by the team. The presentation consisted of explanations of the educational work done with Yabucoa and other places where bee observatories are being installed.
Not only are our SJS students involved, but they are also acting as mentors for other schools to join, such as San Ignacio. Students from the Be a Bee program make products using honey as the base ingredient. These products are sold at various farmer's markets. All of the money made from the sales of their products go the SJS Scholarship fund.

Thank you to 10th grader, Isabelle Ramseyer for her incredibel intiative in bringing this program to life and to her advisor Rosalia Eiffert for her support. See the video which was prepared by Ivana Rivera for a close up, behind the scenes look at the work our students are doing.
