10th Grader, Gia Mar Ramos, Recognized by the Puerto Rico Senate

Gia Ramos (10th grade) was recognized today at Senado de Puerto Rico for her development of her SnapStroke app.  This app will be able to use cell phone camera technology to detect if a person is having symptoms of a stroke (facial disfiguration) and alert 911 as well as loved ones.  This is a remarkable development with tremendous potential to save lives as one of the most important factors to make a difference in victims of strokes is the speed of diagnosis and prompt medical attention.   Gia has previously received other awards for this invention both in Puerto Rico and in the US.  Today she was honored as part of “Dia de la Concientizacion de Ataques Cerebrales”, and was invited to speak at “Conversatorio Tomalo en Serio & Piensa Rapido” hosted by Senators Thomas Rivera Schatz and Senator Luis Daniel Muniz Cortez.  At this event, the Hon. Dr. Rafael Rodriguez, Secretary of Health of Puerto Rico and Dean of the UPR School of Medicine,  was the key note speaker.  Gia and other health professionals and specialists in the field made their own presentations and were recognized for their contributions in this field.
