Be a Bee Initiative Selected for 2019 Bee Grant

Today May, 20th, is the United Nations National Bee Day and Saint John’s School proudly announces the Be a Bee Initiative has been selected to receive the 2019 Bee Grant from The Bee Cause Project in Savannah, GA. The Bee Cause Project is a not-for-profit organization that installs observation honeybee hives in schools worldwide, with the mission to provide the next generation with opportunities to understand, engage, and learn from honey bees in order to connect with the natural environment while developing STEAM skills.

We are very grateful to have been chosen to receive this Bee Grant and would like to extend our thanks to William Burgos of Para La Naturaleza, who donated the bees from Hacienda La Esperanza in Manatí and to Prof. Miguel Carbonell who installed the observatory beehive with our team from Saint John’s School. This observatory is located on the second floor of the High School Science Department.

Ms. Lyaned Rivera, Environmental Science Teacher, and Eco-Escuela will be supervising the scientific observations. Saint John’s School has become the leading school in Puerto Rico of a worldwide movement to save the bees and the environment through education and research.
