National Honor Society- Mercedes Higuera Chapter Inducted 35 New Members

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established for teachers and faculty to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

“Members are selected (and not elected) by the faculty of the school, through decisions of the Faculty Council, to be a part of the chapter. Individuals do not apply for membership, but rather submit information. Membership, therefore, is an honor bestowed upon an individual by the faculty, and thus a privilege. It is neither a position for which one applies nor to which one is elected nor a right of any individual.” National Honor Society Handbook Section 4.4.1.1.Once selected, members are obligated to continue to demonstrate these qualities and to perform a specified amount of service hours during every year of membership. (This is in addition to the service requirements for students by the school).

We would like to congratulate our 2019 National Honor Society members on their dedication and hard work in being selected for this honor.
