Understanding and Nurturing the Self-Esteem of Children
 
How do we help our children have a healthy and positive self-esteem? Why is my child struggling with self-esteem issues?
The aim is to explore the relationship between children’s self-esteem and parenting. The discussion will focus on definitions of self-esteem and the importance of healthy self-esteem. Parents will learn strategies to help empower their children and become allies in the development of healthy self-esteem.
 
Topics:
  • Strategies that promote self-esteem, identifying possible self-esteem problems, and common misconceptions regarding this topic.
  • Preventative measures regarding self-esteem, as well as coping with existing self-esteem problems such as perfectionism and negative self-talk.
  • Specific techniques such as building trust with your child, descriptive praise, decreasing negative self-talk, and appropriate verbal reprimands will be discussed.
