Acceptable Use Policy ( AUP )
At Saint John's School
(SJS) we believe that the use of
electronic devices i.e. desktops, laptops, Tablet PC’s, PDAS, Pocket
PC’s, and Cellular phones, provide access to valuable education opportunities
and information. Internet access is available to students and teachers in SJS.
Access to the network and Internet has been established for constructive educational goals only, it
offers vast, diverse and unique educational resources to both students and
teachers. SJS does not condone or
permit the use of material/electronic devices that are inaccurate, abusive,
profane, sexually oriented, or illegal, by either students or teachers. SJS
will take all possible precautions to restrict access to controversial material
available on the Internet. SJS is not responsible for inappropriate access/use
of material or electronic devices by students.
SJS expects students
to read and sign the following Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
The use of electronic
devices, access to the network and Internet is for school-related activities only.
I understand that the use electronic devices, access to the network and
Internet are a privilege and not a right. Inappropriate use may result in the cancellation
of these privileges and/or more serious consequences. As a user of electronic
devices I will abide by the general rules of use as follows:

I will use only
my personal account name and password to access SJS network. I will not share or loan this information
for any reason. Sharing this information will result in loss of privileges.

I will log off after each and every session on
the network or upon leaving a computer station.
·
I will use the system for research and guided
educational activities; creating or modifying personal home pages is not
permitted nor is shopping subscribing to goods or services.
·
I will show respect for both others and myself
by not using electronic devices to harm or harass other people or their work.
·
I will use school printers with discretion,
printing only materials necessary for school related activities. I will not use
someone else’s account to print my work.
·
I understand that the posting of contact
information (e.g. address, phone number, school address, etc.) is not
permitted.
·
I
understand that use of defamatory information about myself, a person or an
organization or the use of obscene, threatening, or disrespectful language or
electronic media is not permitted.
·
I understand that the downloading, copying or
sharing of school software, shareware, freeware or any other school related files
is not allowed.
·
I understand that accessing material that is
profane or obscene (pornography), or advocates illegal, dangerous acts,
violence or discrimination towards other people is a serious violation of
school policy.
·
I will maintain the network settings and not
change the settings of the computer systems, or computer accessories.
·
I will respect the rights of copyright owners by
NOT copying; saving or
redistributing copyrighted material such as text, images, presentations,
information from classmates’ disks or the Internet. I will never present someone else’s work as my own.
·
I will be held personally responsible for any
personal electronic device used at SJS or on the SJS network.
·
I understand that information posted on or over
the network is not private. SJS may monitor or review any/all electronic
activity at anytime to ensure users are acting responsibly.
I understand that there
will be consequences if I violate any of these rules. The school principal will determine consequences. Penalty for misuse may include but is not
limited to one or more of the following: verbal warning, written record placed
in student’s file, call or meeting with parent/guardian, loss of the privileges
of using personal or school electronic devices, access to the network and
Internet, suspension, and/or dismissal from school.
I have read and
discussed the above with my parent/guardian and by signing SJS Middle/High AUP;
I agree to abide by this policy while using any electronic device on SJS
network or grounds.

I have read and
discussed the above policy with my child. I recognize that SJS will take the
necessary precautions for appropriate use and access of electronic devices and
Internet use. I will not hold SJS
responsible for any inappropriate use by my child of electronic devices,
controversial material, nor damages that users or their personal electronic
devices may incur.
